At the end of the day, isn&#8217;t the point of guest posting is to drive traffic from one persons website to yours?<\/p>\n<p>Buffer\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/searchenginewatch.com\/article\/2194396\/How-Guest-Posting-Propelled-One-Site-From-0-to-100000-Customers\" target=\"_blank\">built their entire business<\/a>\u00a0around guest posts. Could I copy that method today?<\/p>\n<p>So I tested it.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I wrote my first ever guest post for <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/noahkagan\" target=\"_blank\">Noah Kagan<\/a> on <a href=\"https:\/\/okdork.com\/2014\/03\/11\/get-first-100-email-subscribers\/\" target=\"_blank\">Okdork.com<\/a>\u00a0this past Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #404040; font-size: 24px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 33.599998474121094px;\">How much traffic did I get?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Over the last 30 days this site has average\u00a0<strong>285<\/strong>\u00a0visitors per day.<\/p>\n<p>On the day of the guest post it received\u00a0<strong>1,086<\/strong>\u00a0and <strong>686<\/strong> the day after. Of those\u00a0<strong>1,782<\/strong>\u00a0visitors\u00a0<strong>73%<\/strong>\u00a0of them were new visitors.<\/p>\n<p>The traffic influx was from loyal readers of the Okdork.com blog that heard about me and came here to learn more.<\/p>\n<p>But they didn&#8217;t just checkout my site, they became members. Spend 20+ Hours Writing<\/h2>\n<p>My guest post was long.<\/p>\n<p>Like 4,000 words long.<\/p>\n<p>I hadn&#8217;t written that much in one sitting since college (I&#8217;m not 100% sure I ever did it in college either).<\/p>\n<p>The #1 take away from this post was that very specific step-by-step information is rare. The internet is full of generalizations and broad sweeping uneducated opinions. What is missing is specific actionable steps to execute a proven plan.<\/p>\n<p>Writing that type of material is freaking hard. It&#8217;s exhausting and insanely time consuming. Comments Supercharge Traffic<\/h2>\n<p>The comments section is one area that is often neglected by guest posters. I wanted to make sure that didn&#8217;t happen for me. This will make it possible to track the <em>exact<\/em> number of times that someone visits your site from the comment section.<\/li>\n<li>Set Up a <a href=\"https:\/\/ifttt.com\/recipes\/153808-new-comment-on-okdork-guest-post-http-okdork-com-comments-feed-then-send-me-an-sms-at-61582304\" target=\"_blank\">IFTTT recipe like this<\/a>. This will prevent you from hitting refresh 500 times on the day of your post. Instead it will send you a text every time a comment is left. This enables to to be engaged without killing your entire day.<\/li>\n<li>Manually reach out via email to each person you mention in your post. Doing this got the article mentioned by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/neilpatel\/status\/443761634960363521\" target=\"_blank\">Neil Patel<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/AndrewWarner\/status\/443792563783614466\" target=\"_blank\">Andrew Warner<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/topsy.com\/trackback?url=http%3A%2F%2Fokdork.com%2F2014%2F03%2F11%2Fget-first-100-email-subscribers%2F&amp;infonly=1\" target=\"_blank\">others<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>3. Reverse Engineer it for your Site<\/h2>\n<p>My biggest revelation through this process was that I need to be publishing guest post on this blog.<\/p>\n<p>By Noah inviting me to interact with his readers it helped me tremendously. I realized I have a responsibility to help others that are starting out as well. Although there aren&#8217;t near as many people reading Videofruit.com as there are Okdork.com there is someone that is launching a blog today that I could give a huge boost to by showcasing them to you.<\/p>\n<p>Coming soon you&#8217;ll be hearing from some of those people. <a href=\"https:\/\/ariellehale.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hint<\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/leonardkim.com\" target=\"_blank\">Hint<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>&#8220;So what? You got traffic why should I care?&#8221;<\/h2>\n<p>I am 100% convinced that the best possible way to grow your online business is through guest blogging. If you have 0 readers on your site, quit writing for yourself and go write a 4,000 word article for someone else.<\/p>\n<p>Kill yourself making it incredibly helpful.<\/p>\n<p>If you do that, 1,000 people will show up at your doorstep the next day.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do you have an app you have launched and need traffic? Do what <a href=\"https:\/\/searchenginewatch.com\/article\/2194396\/How-Guest-Posting-Propelled-One-Site-From-0-to-100000-Customers\" target=\"_blank\">Buffer did<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Do you have an online marketing agency and need new customer? Do what <a href=\"https:\/\/www.quicksprout.com\/2014\/01\/22\/guest-blogging-and-seo-still-a-match-made-in-heaven\/\" target=\"_blank\">Neil Patel did<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Do you have a local nursing home that needs more patience? \u00a0Blog <a href=\"https:\/\/centerforhealthmediapolicy.com\/2013\/09\/24\/nurses-as-housekeepers-at-vanderbilt-medical-center-an-untold-story-behind-the-story\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It is applicable to ANY online business and <em>MOST<\/em> offline businesses.<\/p>\n<p><del><strong>Giveaway<\/strong>:\u00a0I want to help <em><strong>one person<\/strong><\/em> get their first guest blogging gig.
