If you had\u00a0the choice to pay $325 or $95 for the exact same item which would you choose?<\/p>\n

Same packaging, same manufacturer\u2026everything is identical.<\/p>\n

Easy answer right?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last week our car started making a loud noise. After fiddling around with it we figured out that the\u00a0exhaust manifold cracked.<\/p>\n

So, I called up a local repair shop and they quoted me $575 to fix it. I asked them for a breakdown of parts and labor.<\/p>\n

Parts<\/strong>: $350<\/p>\n

Labor<\/strong>: $225<\/p>\n

That seemed high so I called Autozone to get\u00a0a price on the part. They said…<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s in stock and costs $185.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

Hmm\u2026<\/p>\n

I picked up the phone and called the repair shop back and asked why they were charging\u00a0$350 and\u00a0Autozone was charging\u00a0$180.<\/p>\n

“Was the part from\u00a0Autozone\u00a0inferior\u00a0in some way?”<\/em><\/p>\n

They said \u201cNo sir, it\u2019s the exact same part we just have a markup on all of our parts. If you\u2019d like to buy it yourself and bring it in then we can install the Autozone part\u00a0for you\u201d<\/p>\n

Interesting.<\/p>\n

I dug around a little more and eventually found that same part for $185<\/a>, $125<\/a> and $90<\/a>.<\/p>\n
