The email I sent to Neil resulted in <strong>over $30,000<\/strong> of work with his company <a href=\"https:\/\/kissmetrics.com\" target=\"_blank\">KISSmetrics<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But you&#8217;re not going to get results like that by being a spam-sending jerk.<\/p>\n<p>What is a spam-sending jerk?<\/p>\n<p>Spam-sending jerks send one-line emails pitching their services.<\/p>\n<p>Spam-sending jerks think only about themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Spam-sending jerks\u00a0ask a large open-ended question to their prospects and get their email deleted.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">How to send emails that create friends and don&#8217;t make people hate you<\/h2>\n<p>Raise your right hand and repeat after me..<\/p>\n<p>I&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Will not&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Be a spam-sending jerk.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three things\u00a0to do to avoid being a spam-sending jerk.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #1:<\/strong> Don&#8217;t send lazy emails.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t ask people to give you &#8220;feedback&#8221; on your blog post, app, idea or anything else. Ever.<\/p>\n<p>Asking for &#8220;feedback&#8221; is lazy.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, asking for anything in your first email is\u00a0lazy and self-centered.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #2:<\/strong> Don&#8217;t ask for anything.<\/p>\n<p>The typical email I get asks me for specific advice. Asking for advice isn&#8217;t bad.<\/p>\n<p>But if your goal is to get someone to hire you, the better approach is to\u00a0start your relationship with a give instead.<\/p>\n<p>(More on this next week.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tip #3:<\/strong> Be patient.<\/p>\n<p>The mistake I see the most is being overly aggressive.<\/p>\n<p>Wait at least 3 days between the time you pitch and the follow-up.<\/p>\n<p>Sending an email every day for 5 days straight will get you ignored. Hated. And blacklisted.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Action Items<\/h2>\n<p>The goal of this lesson is to find your prospect&#8217;s email address and start the relationship-building process.<\/p>\n<p>Your homework is threefold&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Action Item #1:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/a\/manfisher.com\/spreadsheet\/ccc?key=0AnyWT9F-I7fJdDBaZklZUUtEXzVwdzNJNGwyOVpsQWc&amp;usp=drive_web#gid=2\" target=\"_blank\">Pick your service<\/a> (if you haven&#8217;t already).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Action Item #2:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/quickest-way-to-start-a-business\/\" target=\"_blank\">Make a list of 10 people you would like to work with<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Action Item #3:<\/strong> Subscribe to\u00a0each prospect&#8217;s newsletter.<\/p>\n<p>Then next week I&#8217;ll help you write your first email to your prospect.
