{"id":4547,"date":"2015-09-04T13:53:32","date_gmt":"2015-09-04T18:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/?p=4547"},"modified":"2015-09-12T20:16:38","modified_gmt":"2015-09-13T01:16:38","slug":"more-customers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/?p=4547","title":{"rendered":"Quick hack to get more customers with Nerdy Data"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[su_quote style=&#8221;modern-blue&#8221;]<strong>Note<\/strong>: We&#8217;ve updated this post with a few more examples and answers to several popular questions in the comments. <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/more-customers\/#update1\">Click here to jump straight to the update<\/a>.[\/su_quote]<\/p>\n<p>Do you want more customers?<\/p>\n<p>One of the quickest and most hacky ways to get more customers\u00a0is to make a hit list: a list of folks who are either already buying from your competitors or are using products tangentially related to the product (or service) you sell.<\/p>\n<p>Then reach out to every person on your list and tell them about your product.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here is a super simple\u00a0way\u00a0to do\u00a0that:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 1:<\/strong> Use <a href=\"https:\/\/nerdydata.com\" target=\"_blank\">NerdyData.com<\/a> to get a list of websites using your competitor&#8217;s product.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Step 2:<\/strong> Reach out to them and get them to\u00a0use your product instead.<\/p>\n<p>NerdyData is a search engine for code. So you can plop in a bit of code from your website (ex: a Facebook tracking pixel snippet) and find all of the other sites on the internet that have\u00a0that code on their website.<\/p>\n<p>Pretty snazzy, right?<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll give you a few quick examples of how\u00a0you could implement this.<!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Example #1:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/unlockyourtheme.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Unlock Your Theme<\/a> by John Meese<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Home_Page___Unlock_Your_Theme_1B9A16CB.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1007\" height=\"482\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Home_Page___Unlock_Your_Theme_1B9A16CB.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1007\" height=\"482\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>John sells an online course called Unlock Your Theme. It&#8217;s a video course that teaches people how to use <a href=\"https:\/\/getnoticedtheme.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Michael Hyatt&#8217;s WordPress theme<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>How could John use this strategy to sell more copies\u00a0of his course?<\/p>\n<p>First, find a\u00a0snippet of code unique to Hyatt&#8217;s WordPress theme.<\/p>\n<p>To do that you can go to any site running his theme and right-click and press &#8220;view source.&#8221; This will give you a look at the code that produces the page you see on his theme.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;ll see something like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_johnmeese_me_1B9A176D.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"428\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_johnmeese_me_1B9A176D.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"700\" height=\"428\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Now, hunt through this code to find a snippet that is unique to the theme.<\/p>\n<p>Something like this&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_johnmeese_me_1B9A1811.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"766\" height=\"174\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_johnmeese_me_1B9A1811.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"766\" height=\"174\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Last, go over to NerdyData.com and put that code snippet into their search engine.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/_getnoticed_js_html5_js_-_Code_Search_1B9A1883.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"385\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/_getnoticed_js_html5_js_-_Code_Search_1B9A1883.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"385\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>The result is a list of 2,506 websites that are running the WordPress theme.<\/p>\n<p>These are people who have already bought the theme, installed it and are actively\u00a0running it on their site.<\/p>\n<p>Now John&#8217;s job is easy: send all 2,506 website owners an email, telling them about his course that will help them get more out of their website.<\/p>\n<p>BOOM!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Example #2:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/convertkit.com\" target=\"_blank\">ConvertKit<\/a>\u00a0by\u00a0Nathan Barry<\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/ConvertKit_1B9A1A2C.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"406\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/ConvertKit_1B9A1A2C.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"406\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Nathan Barry runs a email service provider called ConvertKit.<\/p>\n<p>You&#8217;re familiar with MailChimp and AWeber, right?<\/p>\n<p>ConverKit is like that, only more sophisticated, cheaper\u00a0and specifically designed for professional bloggers.<\/p>\n<p>Marketing ConverKit is a little tricky though. ConvertKit\u00a0is not targeted at the beginner crowd. The\u00a0entry level plan costs $29 per month, whereas Mailchimp and Aweber both have free (or extremely cheap) plans for beginners.<\/p>\n<p>Nathan&#8217;s target market is\u00a0bloggers with 3,000 subscribers on their list who are already making money from their list.<\/p>\n<p>These are people who are already using email service providers like Infusionsoft or Ontraport but are fed up with the complexity and bloat of those systems.<\/p>\n<p>But finding those people can be hard.<\/p>\n<p>Unless you use our new hack. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>First, you would need to find a snippet of code that websites using Infusionsoft or ONTRAPORT would have on their site.<\/p>\n<p>In this case that&#8217;s easy: any website with an embedded form has a unique piece of code.<\/p>\n<p>For example&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If you go to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lewishowes.com\">LewisHowes.com<\/a> you&#8217;ll see an embedded form on the home page.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Lewis_Howes_1B9A1C08.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"556\" height=\"223\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Lewis_Howes_1B9A1C08.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"556\" height=\"223\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Right-click your mouse and press &#8220;view source&#8221; and you&#8217;ll get the entire code base for his website.<\/p>\n<p>Now, if you do a search for &#8220;infusionsoft,&#8221; it brings you straight to several unique pieces of code you can use for the search.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_lewishowes_com_1B9A1CB2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"946\" height=\"131\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/view-source_lewishowes_com_1B9A1CB2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"946\" height=\"131\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>Lastly, if you punch\u00a0that snippet of code into NerdyData, you get a list of over 18,000 websites with the same code installed.<\/p>\n<p>= Infusionsoft&#8217;s entire customer list!<\/p>\n<p>Now Nathan has a hit list. He has a list of 18,000 people who are actively paying Infusionsoft at least $250 per month for their service.<\/p>\n<p>His job is to filter through this list and reach out to the most qualified prospects.<\/p>\n<p>Yeehaw!<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"update1\" style=\"text-align: center;\">**UPDATE: Answering a few common\u00a0questions**<\/h2>\n<p>Since originally publishing\u00a0this article, I&#8217;ve received a boatload of &#8220;How do I use this in my industry?&#8221; questions.<\/p>\n<p>This update will answer those\u00a0questions and clear up a few other issues several of you have faced.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Update\u00a0#1<\/strong>: The purpose of this technique is to identify potential customers for your business based on trackable and searchable\u00a0behaviors.<\/h3>\n<p>Those behaviors\u00a0could be any number of things:<\/p>\n<p>1. Articles\u00a0they have backlinked to<\/p>\n<p>2. Plugins\u00a0they have installed<\/p>\n<p>3. Themes they are running<\/p>\n<p>4. Pinterest<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A search for &#8220;women clothes\u00a0fashion&#8221; on Pinterest brings up 100s of popular pins like this.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Pinterest__Discover_and_save_creative_ideas_1BA1CF16.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"751\" \/><noscript><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/Skitch\/Pinterest__Discover_and_save_creative_ideas_1BA1CF16.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"472\" height=\"751\" \/><\/noscript><\/p>\n<p>All 530 people that pinned this are potential customers of Kyle&#8217;s wife&#8217;s boutique.<\/p>\n<p>Reach out to them, follow them on Pinterest and run paid ads to them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. My customers aren&#8217;t online. This isn&#8217;t applicable,&#8221; and go back to wallowing in your self-pity.<\/p>\n<p>However, I want to challenge you. I want to challenge you to figure out a way to <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>MAKE<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0it work for you.<\/p>\n<p>How can you take the basic principles taught in this strategy and apply them to your business?<\/p>\n<p>How can you find new potential customers by observing and tracking their behavior online?<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s your job. Figure. It. Google search for them.
