{"id":8296,"date":"2021-10-28T09:24:29","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T09:24:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/?p=8296"},"modified":"2021-10-29T21:39:29","modified_gmt":"2021-10-29T21:39:29","slug":"how-to-find-new-customers-and-increase-sales","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/?p=8296","title":{"rendered":"How to Find New Customers and Increase Sales [90-day Action Plan]"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People chase tactic after tactic to grow, but there are really only three ways to grow a business:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Get more customers.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Increase the order value.<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Increase buying frequency.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Know which one most people try first? Number 1: get more customers. But that\u2019s actually the <i>hardest<\/i> way to increase sales revenue.<\/p>\n<p><b>You can grow your business by 50% to 100% just by increasing your price and buying frequency.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Finding new customers is absolutely important, but it\u2019s far more impactful if you find more customers <i>after<\/i> your average order value is higher.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is true for two reasons:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">More customers buying at a higher price = more money, faster.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t have to \u201csell\u201d those customers twice (once to become a customer, and again to accept your price increase).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead, you up the price first, then avoid the hard work of explaining to all those <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new clients<\/span> <i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">why<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> you\u2019re raising prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Say you offer a product that your clients only purchase once. Would you rather increase leads before price, or price before leads?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s what happens to your revenue from a $100 product if you increase the price to $125 and <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">then<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> start growing leads. If you get 10 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> per month, it\u2019s only a $250 difference in one month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But once you get 50 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, suddenly that\u2019s a $1,000+ bump to revenue. And at 200 <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, you\u2019re looking at an extra $5,000 per month.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/how-to-find-new-customers-and-increase-sales-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8298 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pages, read through this list of 14 tactics to <\/span><b>increase sales<\/b><b> and find <\/b><b>new customers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (grouped into three buckets \u2014 order value, buying frequency, and lead gen):<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#increase-order-value\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ideas to increase order value<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><a href=\"#increase-buying-frequency\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ideas to increase days. Make your goal <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at least<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a <\/span><b>10% increase<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in whatever category you pick. After those 90 days are up, pick a new one to focus on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Do that systematically, and big things happen. You\u2019ll have to use common sense and pick the ones you can execute that seem easy and effective for your business. It\u2019s a framework for prioritizing what to do <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">first <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with your business. You can use it with the list of 14 ideas below.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask yourself these three questions about any tactic that you\u2019re considering:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Impact:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> How impactful could this strategy be for my revenue growth?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Confidence:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> How confident am I that this strategy would increase revenue?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Ease:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Given my skills, business model, and resources, how easy would it be to implement this tactic?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For each question, assign a score from one to 10 (with 10 being the highest and one being the lowest), total the scores, and boom: You\u2019ve got your ICE score for that tactic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s an example of what this exercise might look like for two different business types.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Example #1: Mary the Coach<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mary reads this post and likes tactics <\/span><a href=\"#pricing-tiers\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#4 (Add Pricing Tiers)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"#recurring-revenue\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#6 (Bake in Recurring Revenue)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"#facebook-ad\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#12 (Turn a Popular Email into a Facebook Ad)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">She doesn\u2019t want to do <a href=\"#raise-your-price\">#1 (Raise Your Price)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0because she just did that last month.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, she hasn\u2019t tried implementing different pricing tiers and she has been scheduling one-off coaching calls. If it works, a premium tier will bring in a lot more revenue, but it may take some tinkering until she finds just the right mix of price and bonuses offered.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Recurring revenue<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is easy \u2014 most people like working with coaches repeatedly, so formalizing that and selling packages of calls (one-month, three-month, or six-month packages, for example) should be simple. Plus, it can serve as a foundation when she adds pricing tiers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Turning an email into a Facebook ad<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> should work well since she has an established list and a bank of previous emails. But navigating Facebook ads for the first time will take effort, and it still might not reach <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">potential customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. That makes it the least appealing of the three. A score of 17 isn\u2019t very high, so if Mary completes the ICE table for more ideas, she might find something to do <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">after<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the pricing adjustments but <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">before<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the email-into-Facebook-ad tactic.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>Example #2: Jack the Bakery Owner<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jack has a brick-and-mortar bakery along with an online store to sell gluten-free goods. He already has a bread subscription service available, so recurring revenue isn\u2019t a weak point. He might be a little worried about losing customers because we\u2019re all very particular about the price of our food.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if he starts with a gentle 10% to 15% price increase instead of the full 25%, it will still have a huge impact on his revenue without scaring away many (if any) customers. This <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sales strategy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a clear winner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">High-ticket coaching appeals to him because his customers constantly talk about how they struggle to make baked goods at home, and he\u2019s always liked teaching. If a handful were willing to pay for one-on-one coaching or a gluten-free baking class, that would be a nice boost to his personal income. But it would take time, something he can only afford to offer if his employees keep the shop running smoothly without him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on the ICE score, it\u2019s worth waiting on this idea and pursuing others first.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, a co-promo with influencers should be easy to do. There are plenty of products that pair well with baked goods (chocolates, wine, cheese, breakfast foods, etc.).<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"increase-order-value\">All he has to do to get more customers is tap into the audiences of other brands and <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">small businesses<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that gel with his, while letting them do the same. This is definitely a strategy that will work well after he\u2019s raised prices a bit.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set 1: How to Increase Order Value<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Now that you have ICE under your belt, it\u2019s time to skim through tactics! We\u2019ve seen all of these work well for our coaching clients \u2014 which one works best for <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">your business<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> just depends on your skillset and business type.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"raise-your-price\">Jot down your favorites, and use the ICE framework on them when you\u2019re done. This first set is all about increasing revenue at the point of sale.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>1. Raise Your Price\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is one of the simplest, easiest, most impactful changes you can make to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase sales<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revenue, but most <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">business owners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I know are afraid they\u2019ll alienate even their most <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">loyal customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They say stuff like this:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWhat if I lose my customers?\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cI feel bad charging more &#8230; &#8220;<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cBut this is what I\u2019ve always done!\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> I hear you. Now raise your prices. \ud83d\ude43<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I\u2019m not telling you to double it overnight (<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/how-to-price-coaching-packages-and-consulting-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">unless you\u2019re a coach charging $100\/hr<\/a>, in which case I <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">am<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> telling you to double it). If you\u2019ve just raised prices last month, it\u2019s fine to hold off.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if you haven\u2019t raised your prices in the last 18 months, bump it up by 25%. Have a \u201clast chance before the price increase\u201d sale and watch the orders roll in.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the price is up, stick to it. I doubt you\u2019ll see a dip in sales. You might even see your numbers go up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>I know from experience:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The last few times we increased prices (thinking that it would slow down sales and give us a breather), our close rates actually <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increased<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Customers started to see us as a premium offering and wanted to work with us <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">more<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. So not only did we get more money from each purchase, we got more purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Don\u2019t make this complicated. Just raise your prices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">P.S. It\u2019s when you offer a related product as the client is checking out to increase the order value.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Burgers:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Want some fries with that?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Furniture:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> How about some leather cleaning solution? Throw pillows? Felt pads to protect your floors from chair legs?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Camping tents: <\/b>World\u2019s best travel bottle? Hiking backpacks?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s easy to see how this works for physical products. Pick any item and I can come up with three accessories on the spot that you could use to increase the average order size.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But what about coaches and course creators? Does this work? Absolutely.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just take the \u201ctiny offers\u201d that our client <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/fruitfullyalive.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Adrienne Luedeking<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offers. If it\u2019s something that acts as a stepping stone between your lowest-cost service or product and your premium offers, even better.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>3. Offer \u201cUnlimited Consulting for 90 Days\u201d as an Upsell\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one\u2019s mainly for course creators. If someone\u2019s buying your course, it\u2019s because they trust you and your expertise. Some percentage of your customers will <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">happily<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> pay a premium price for more of your time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Should this be a completely open-ended offer? Probably not. That\u2019s why I suggest a 90-day (or even a 60-day) window.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But there are other types of boundaries you should consider too.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps the consulting is asynchronous only (through Loom videos or emails). Or maybe they have to book a time on your calendar, which reduces how often they can realistically take your time. If you do have any restrictions on their access to you, just be clear about it upfront.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"pricing-tiers\">If you have a different business model, is there a similar or equivalent offer you could make? Perhaps it\u2019s a limited-time increase in tech support for your product.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If this doesn\u2019t fit your business model, that\u2019s OK. There are plenty of other ideas to choose from.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>4. Add One or Two Pricing Tiers<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tiered pricing is a tactic you can\u2019t afford to miss. Here\u2019s the basic idea:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You take your basic offer, make it extra awesome, and tack on a higher price tag. You see this in SaaS business pricing pages all the time. You can get the \u201cbasic\u201d subscription, or the \u201cGold\u201d or \u201cSilver\u201d or \u201cProfessional\u201d or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">whatever<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> they want to call it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shopify.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Shopify<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u2019s pricing page as an example. It can. It works extremely well for course creators, coaches, consultants, agencies, and SaaS companies.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And of course, you see this in the food industry all the time. One bagel, $1. Six bagels, $5. Twelve bagels, $9.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the beauty of packages for coaches and course creators is that you can add items and services to increase the value <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">without<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> discounting your core offer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/tiered-pricing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Read all about how to implement tiered pricing (including ideas for what to include in your tiers) for your business here.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"increase-buying-frequency\">This is a highly effective way to raise prices after you\u2019ve already raised your base price. It gives your customers who want to spend more a way to do so, while you continue to serve the rest of your customers just as well.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set 2: How to Increase Buying Frequency<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s another way to <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase sales<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revenue besides raising prices? Get your customers to buy more often and give them different things to buy.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>5. Ask Past Customers to Buy Again<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What if you want to get repeat purchases, but only sell one-time purchase products?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sell them an upgraded version or a different product.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Does this take time and effort? Yes, absolutely. <\/span><b>But the payoff is immense.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Take Brian Dean as an example. He sells a course called <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/seothatworks.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> That Works<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. He\u2019s on version 5.0 or so. Every time he releases an update, he sells it at a discount to people who bought a previous version of the course.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He still gets all the sales from <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, but now he\u2019s adding <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">additional<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> revenue to each launch from all his <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">existing customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, just by giving them a way to buy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You could also offer additional products or services. For example, if you\u2019re a marriage counselor, why just offer \u201cmarriage counseling\u201d when you can offer packages for newlyweds, new parents, empty-nesters, etc.?<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"recurring-revenue\">If you have a low-priced product, how can you offer a premium version? Or if you have a premium product, can you offer something at a lower price point?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write your ideas down and see if any of them make sense as the next step for your business.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>6. Bake in Recurring Revenue<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What\u2019s better than a sale? A subscription.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To be clear, I\u2019m not saying you should upend your business model and do something entirely different. But you should definitely have a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sales plan<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for customers to schedule recurring purchases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you sell coaching, don\u2019t sell one-off sessions. Instead, offer a three-month package. Or agree to a recurring schedule that they can cancel anytime.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you sell a course, consider building a membership site that brings in additional monthly revenue. Give anyone who buys the course a 30-day free trial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you sell snacks, offer a small discount in exchange for regular monthly deliveries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>The key point is this: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Rather than making a new decision <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">every time they buy<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, they make <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one decision for multiple purchases<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Inertia is in your favor. If they want to cancel, that takes a new decision.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"coaching-offer\">And in the meantime, the LTV (lifetime value) of your customer is now multiplied by the number of months they stay subscribed.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>7. Create a High-Ticket Coaching Offer\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most people have knowledge that others would pay for. If you already have your own business, then that\u2019s definitely true.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you like teaching and like the sound of customers giving you thousands of dollars for sharing your wisdom, give this one some thought.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What would you teach? Who would you teach it to?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may already know the answers to those questions. Promote an Affiliate Product<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new product<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> not going to fit in your calendar? No problem. Just sell someone else\u2019s product instead.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With affiliate marketing, you help someone else sell their product for a set commission. Let\u2019s say you\u2019re a course creator.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You\u2019ve got a few options:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Regularly refer your clients to other courses that will help them (for anywhere from 15% to 50% of the sales revenue).<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Offer a bundle of courses (yours and someone else\u2019s), and split the profits.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve done a great job selling the affiliate product, you could just make your own. Then you don\u2019t have to split the profit. You just sell it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"find-new-customers\">Whether affiliate marketing is a good option for you depends on how you\u2019ll get the word out. Are you selling to your email list? Writing search-engine-optimized blog posts? Leveraging a social media following?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you don\u2019t have those, this isn\u2019t a great option. If you do, it\u2019s worth considering.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Set 3: How to Find <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New Customers<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are two ways to get more customers: <\/span><b>Find more, and convert more.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you get tons of leads but relatively few customers, work on your conversion rates. That could mean improving your positioning, working on the technical aspects of your funnel, or tweaking your sales copy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But for many people, the problem is reaching <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">prospective customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the first place, so that\u2019s what we\u2019ll focus on with these ideas.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>9. Ask Your Current Customers for a Referral<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It doesn\u2019t matter if you\u2019re a coach, an agency, or a brick-and-mortar shop. Ask your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">existing customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to refer you to people they know who could be a good fit for your business.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"influencers\">This is as simple as asking, then having a good <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">follow-up<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> email. But with everything, having a good process makes it easier &#8230; even for <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">word-of-mouth<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> business growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/how-to-get-referrals-from-clients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s our process for getting great customer <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">referrals<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>10. Co-Promo with Influencers\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Who are the other <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">business owners<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> who serve your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">target audience<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? I\u2019m not talking about your direct competitors. I mean the folks who meet the needs you don\u2019t.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You need to find them and get in front of their audiences.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019re the GF bakery owner, this means making friends with other GF food suppliers and wellness professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you write books for professionals, that means finding groups of attorneys, tax professionals, and so forth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maybe you do a joint podcast. Maybe you do a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webinar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> together. Maybe you guest post on each other\u2019s email lists or <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">social media<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (even <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">LinkedIn<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever you do, just make sure you include a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">call-to-action<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CTA<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) during your presentation so that attendees know you have more to offer. Host a Webinar for Your List\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This tactic works well if you have a healthy list that you haven\u2019t been selling to often.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once a month, I host a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webinar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the folks on my list to teach them all about how to find <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">potential new customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in a way that doesn\u2019t break the bank.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"facebook-ad\">After every webinar, I get a flurry of new consultation requests from folks who are interested in our <a href=\"https:\/\/lp.growthtools.com\/predictable-leads?utm_source=gc&amp;source=increasesales-blogpost\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coaching program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/webinar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Never done a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">webinar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> before? This post will walk you through everything you need to know.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><strong>12. Turn a Popular Email into a Facebook Ad<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s another one that works well if you have an email list.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hop into your analytics dashboard (if you have one) and look at your open rates. Which emails were opened the most? Which resulted in the most purchases?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Write down your top five, then pick one that\u2019s easy to summarize. Use that as the basis for a Facebook ad.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Executing this idea does involve spending money and taking the time (or hiring someone) to set up a Facebook ad. But it\u2019s a great way to get in front of your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">target market<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (as long as your positioning and targeting are on point).\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can also use a retargeting campaign to get the ad in front of folks who hit your site but didn\u2019t buy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/blog\/facebook-ad-experiment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This post will show you how to turn a popular email into a Facebook ad.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Warning<\/i><\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Facebook ads are not for the faint of heart. They are not guaranteed to work, and you will likely lose money unless you\u2019re doing a simple retargeting campaign. Only target cold audiences if you would be psychologically OK with lighting $10,000 on fire and flushing it down the toilet.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<h3><strong>13. Run a Five-Day Promotion<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sales are exciting. People love getting a good deal. And a good, time-limited deal is hard to resist. That\u2019s why it\u2019s a popular <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">marketing strategy<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you do this, blast it to every channel you\u2019re on. Ask your customers to share it with their friends and family. Maybe run a few ads to it. Watch your client count go up.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Just make sure the discount is one you\u2019re comfortable with. If you\u2019re a coach, for example, and a 20% discount would make you wish you didn\u2019t have to show up to client calls, don\u2019t do it. There are other ways to increase your <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">customer base<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But if you have a recurring revenue stream where an initial discount yields high LTV from your customers, this is a great option.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>14. Optimize Your Most Linked-To Article<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Back in 2018, I finally stopped ignoring <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and made a few simple tweaks to my site. The result was an <\/span><b>83% boost in traffic!<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And more traffic \u2014 at least, traffic to a good, relevant blog post \u2014 means more <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ideal customers<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> knocking on your door.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">SEO<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> can be complicated. You could be super specific about doing everything just right and hopefully get amazing results. Or you could do a few things that drive most of the results and not worry about the rest.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you\u2019ve been doing any <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">content marketing<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for your website, this tactic is worth a try.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start with your most linked-to article. Those external links tell Google that your post is worth reading, so it has a better chance to rank than posts that don\u2019t have any external links <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(in most cases)<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Use <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><b>Ahrefs<\/b><\/a><b> to find it. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">They have a 7-day trial for $7.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Go to <\/span><b>\u201cSite Explorer\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, type in your blog URL, click on <\/span><b>\u201cBest by links,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and look for the blog with the most external links.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.growthtools.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/how-to-find-new-customers-and-increase-sales-7.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" When you find one that\u2019s not ranking on the first page for a meaningful keyword, choose that one.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What\u2019s a good keyword?<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Since you\u2019re retrofitting an existing blog post, it\u2019s one that your blog post answers. So if you wrote about how to build a sales funnel, then your keyword should be \u201chow to build a sales funnel\u201d or something similar.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It doesn\u2019t need to be 3,000 words. You don\u2019t need 50 copies of the keyword throughout the post. You just need to do a few things.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>1. Put the keyword in the post title.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Put the keyword you\u2019ve chosen in the title, meta description (this is accessible on whatever platform you use to publish your posts), and once in the introduction. A repeat in one of your headings or elsewhere in the body of the post wouldn\u2019t hurt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>2. Add a meta description.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Your meta description helps readers decide whether or not to click into your post. It needs to be 920 pixels or less. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/totheweb.com\/learning_center\/tool-test-google-title-meta-description-lengths\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You can check that here.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For example, the meta description for this post is:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Want to find more customers and <\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">increase sales<\/span><\/i><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">? Pick one of these 14 ideas and increase your revenue at least 10% in 90 days.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><b>3. Compare your content to what\u2019s already ranking.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Whatever\u2019s in the top three spots is there because Google thinks it\u2019s a comprehensive answer to the question the person searching wants answered. Look at the topics they cover. Are there topics they covered that you didn\u2019t? If yes, find a way to work them into your post naturally. You don\u2019t have to have the longest post, but you do need to be one of the most relevant.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you\u2019re done, hit publish, and track your traffic with Google analytics. Watch to see if your page moves up the rankings and, if it does, whether it brings in <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">new leads<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you didn\u2019t mind the process, repeat it with four more posts.
