He asked a YouTuber to interview him.<\/p>\n

Not in exchange for affiliate commissions, an \u201cinfluencer fee,\u201d or any kind of major cross promotion.<\/p>\n

Just a straight up interview, no strings attached.<\/p>\n

How did he make it happen?<\/p>\n

That\u2019s what you\u2019re about to see.<\/p>\n

I sat down with Tim to dig into not only how he did it, but how anyone else who sells coaching or consulting services (or courses) could do the same.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need connections.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t need a massive audience.<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t even need a marketing budget.<\/p>\n

Breaking Down Tim\u2019s YouTube \u201cGuest Interview\u201d Strategy<\/h2>\n

First, let\u2019s take a closer look at Tim\u2019s business so we can understand why this strategy worked so well for him.<\/p>\n

His Company:<\/strong> Tim runs Freelance GPS<\/a>. He helps freelance web developers grow their business to consistently hit $10-30k per month. His best fit clients are developers who have already started their freelance business, seen some initial success, and want to scale it to the next level.<\/p>\n

His Products:<\/strong> Tim\u2019s primary offer right now is a 1:1 coaching service. Clients pay $2,500 (though he recently increased the price to $5,000) for 90 days of coaching.<\/p>\n

This includes a personalized roadmap to grow their freelance business, unlimited 1:1 calls and emails with Tim, in-depth training on sales calls, code reviews, and more.<\/p>\n

How Tim Gets Customers:<\/strong> Tim creates content and free courses designed to help his best fit clients.<\/p>\n

After people sign up for his free courses, he offers them a free strategy session (1:1 call) where he\u2019ll learn about their business and show how he could help them grow it.<\/p>\n

For example, he includes the following CTA on the dashboard page for one of his free courses:<\/p>\n

Since he has their email address, he can also add them to a followup sequence that offers the free strategy session.<\/p>\n

The path to grow is simple:<\/p>\n

The more quality leads he has signing up for his free course, the more strategy sessions he\u2019ll book, the more leads he\u2019ll convert into coaching clients.<\/p>\n

The question is\u2026how can he get himself (and his free course) in front of as many potential best fit clients as possible?<\/p>\n

Tim\u2019s solution: get someone who already has a large audience of his best fit clients to feature him.<\/p>\n

How Tim Got Featured on a YouTube Channel with 360,000+ Subscribers<\/p>\n

First, Tim asked a simple question: what podcasts, blogs, YouTube channels, etc. do my best fit clients love to consume?<\/p>\n

He had a few ideas of his own, but he also decided to ask his own email subscribers.<\/p>\n

One name kept coming back again and again: Forrest Knight.<\/p>\n

Forrest runs a popular YouTube channel full of helpful \u201chow to\u201d videos and tutorials for web developers.<\/p>\n

Tim didn\u2019t have an existing connection to Forrest, but he immediately recognized 2 things:<\/p>\n

A decent chunk of Forrest\u2019s hundreds of thousands of subscribers were likely interested in doing freelance development work.<\/p>\n

Forrest wasn\u2019t currently creating much content about freelancing.<\/p>\n

This, my friends, is what we call a \u201ccontent gap\u201d \u2014 and it\u2019s a HUGE opportunity for anyone selling coaching, consulting, or courses.<\/p>\n

Think about it\u2026<\/p>\n

Many people in Forrest\u2019s audience are probably interested in freelancing<\/p>\n

Freelancing isn\u2019t necessarily Forrest\u2019s primary area of expertise<\/p>\n

Tim can come in as a guest freelancing expert and provide great content for Forrest\u2019s audience free of charge<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a win-win. As Tim put it:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe big win [for Forrest] is it’s a chance to get some more content teaching his audience something new and valuable. [Freelancing] was definitely something his audience was chomping at the bit for.\u201d<\/p>\n

So Tim reached out to Forrest with a simple pitch: I\u2019d love to collaborate on a video about freelancing for your audience.<\/p>\n

Nothing too over the top. Nothing fancy. Tim just did his homework on Forrest\u2019s content and audience and sent him a simple, clear email with the idea.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, this happened:<\/p>\n

Forrest did a simple interview style video all about freelancing with Tim.<\/p>\n

As you can see in the screenshot above, the video description included a link to Tim\u2019s free course (and Tim was also able to mention it in the video).<\/p>\n

The results?<\/p>\n

1,000+ people signed up for the free course \/ Tim\u2019s email list<\/p>\n

Around 100 of them booked a free strategy session<\/p>\n

That converted into $17,500 in directly attributable coaching sales (though Tim estimates the real number is more like $25,000.<\/p>\n

Keep in mind, that\u2019s at the old price for Tim\u2019s 90-day coaching program ($2,500).<\/p>\n

Sidenote: check out the video to see how Tim recently doubled the price and brought in an additional $7,500 in sales (with $7,500-12,000 more likely on the way).<\/p>\n

How to Spot Non-Competitive \u201cContent Gaps\u201d in Your Niche<\/h2>\n

\u201cBut wait\u2026aren\u2019t Tim and Forrest competitors?\u201d<\/p>\n

This is the type of question that stops SO many business owners from following in Tim\u2019s footsteps.<\/p>\n

Repeat after me:<\/p>\n

Just because you both serve the same niche of people does NOT mean you are competitors.<\/p>\n

Tim and Forrest both serve web developers. But Tim specifically helps them with growing their freelance business, while Forrest is more concentrated on helping them improve their development skills.<\/p>\n

Same audience. Different areas of expertise and content.<\/p>\n

Here is a great question to ask yourself to spot these \u201ccontent gap\u201d opportunities in your own niche:<\/p>\n

Who is teaching the same types of people as me\u2026but teaching them something different?<\/p>\n

Make a list, come up with some content ideas for their audience, and start pitching.<\/p>\n
